The Sinking of H.M.S. Paul K. Harker

THEN he came across his first REAL example of Paul K. Harker playing with the truth.

http://projectgermanveteran.aceboard.com/314741-4060-275-0-Marion-Boat.htm

"You're both right. Sort of. U-291 damaged the HMS Marion off Gibralter but in 1942. The HMS Marion listed to port side and its crew was rescued by the HMS Dreadnought. No one knows why Kleist didn't finish off the Marion but stories say either he was out of ammo or thought she would sink under her own power. These vessels met again in the same place in April 1944 and Kleist hit the Marion with a torpdeo near its rudder. Depth charges drove U-291 deep and the battle broke off. Kleist followed U-291 for 2 days and nailed her in a shallow channel. The HMS Marion went down with 23 dead."

The problem was...they were both - well, all ONE of Harker LOL - TOTALLY AND ABSOLUTELY AND PROVABLY FAKE

phylo_roadking found THIS by doing the research Harker DIDN'T do when he tried to fake it...the REAL assignments of the U-291!!!

"08.43 - 08.43 8.U-Flottille, DanzigAusbildungsboot (under training)
08.43 - 07.44 23.U-Flottille, DanzigExperimental boat
07.44 - 02.45 21.U-Flottille, PillauSchulboot (training boat)
03.45 - 05.45 31.U-Flottille, WilhelmshavenAusbildungsboot (under training )"

The U-291 was a training boat, it was NEVER captained by "Wolfram Kleist" AND it NEVER made it into the Med...it spent its war in the Baltic! Surrendered at Wilhelmshaven at the end of the war.

AND "HMS MARION" just plain DIDN'T EXIST!!!

There WAS an armed yatch the "Maid Marion" used by the RNVR, but NOT commissioned as His Majesty's Ship....AND amazingly it made it through the war, as opposed to sinking off Gibraltar!!!

There was NO other vessel with the name "Marion" in the Royal Navy.

NOW Harker was just plain INVENTING "facts"
